RockBare Shiraz makes worlds’ most expensive wine list
RockBare has scored the coup of the century, with one of its $22 bottles of Shiraz selling for a whopping $110,000 last month.
The price paid puts this bottle third in the Forbes list of the ten most expensive bottles of wine ever sold. It was signed by both ex PM John Howard and his deputy Mark Vaile and auctioned at a National Party fundraiser in WA.
And the wine connoisseur who thought this one bottle was worth the price of 15 dozen bottles of the latest Grange, Queensland based iron‐ore billionaire Clive Palmer.
RockBare winemaker Tim Burvill said that he was stunned at the price paid for its 2004 Shiraz.
“We knew it was a great vintage and thrilled that anyone, for any reason would pay so much for a bottle of our wine. The 2004 vintage has long sold out so we’ve sent Mr Palmer some of our new release Shiraz by way of thanks,” Tim said.
According to Tim, his philosophy for RockBare wines is to way over deliver at their price point.
“We deliberately ensure our wines are priced very affordably. We’ve always said that our wines way over deliver for their price, but $110,000 just might be a stretch!”
Tim said that the 2004 vintage was text book ripening year, with the wine showing beautiful chocolate and mocha flavours that McLaren Vale Shiraz is renowned for.
“Our current 2007 vintage is also a stunner, super concentrated and intense. The only problem we have is that it came from a vintage with one of the lowest yields we’ve ever encountered and there is only limited stock remaining,” he said.
RockBare has a tightly held group of small vineyards in the McLaren Vale that consistently produce fruit of exceptional quality. The winery exclusively produces Chardonnay and Shiraz.
